Good day.

I am the Sea Otter Classic (SOC) Amateur Radio Emergency Communications this one last time, moving to AZ, and would like to invite operator's to assist me in providing "When All Else Fails...There Is Amateur Radio" communications on the beautiful Bureau of Land Management Fort Ord Public Lands "back country" Saturday April 17 & 18, 2010.  Time commitment each day 0600 at the Del Rey Oaks Hwy 218 Moose Lodge "Staging," I convoy in the operators/brief them at their assigned position, until demobilization (DEMOB) on or about 1600, possibly earlier on Sunday.

We provide crucial "fill in" COMMS, at 7 radio OPS posts, to augment the National Ski Patrol and the Ft. Ord BLM volunteer group Bicycle, Equestrian Trails Assistance (BETA) First Aiders radio OPS.  The latter two groups are forward deployed at Marshall Points / First Aid stations throughout the course. They are also equipped to "walk in" to medical aid calls on the trails. Also forward deployed are fire/medical units from the Monterey County Regional Fire and Presidio of Monterey Fire agencies.

We Ham's are ONLY communicator's and DO NOT place "boots on the ground" to go out and locate and or treat injured cyclists.  We "call in" medical aid calls to our NCS and fire/medical (EMT-P or EMT-1's) respond to the reported area of the emergency.

As the Ham event leader I will have "roving/mobile" COMMS INTEROP with all field agencies as well as the SCRAMP COMMS building.

I encourage experienced and less experienced operators.  We also encourage mentoring/elmering in a field setting.  This is also an OUTSTANDING ARES/RACES/ACS and DSWVP functional training.

The event volunteer form and SOC, LLC waiver may be requested by e-mailing my dedicated event address at: bspencer@seaotterclassic.com.  They can be returned via scan in/e-mail, fax or USPS modes

Also provided between now and the event, via e-mail, I will be sending out to the operators:

SOC OPS Plan
SOC Net Procedures
SOC ICS-217A  ( again we'll be using the KR6ML "the Monterey Bay American Red Cross Carmel Office portable VHF repeater on 145.310, PL-94.8)
